Ready
to take a stand?
Do you ever avoid conflict? I do. I don’t like it when people oppose
me… or are upset with me… or force me to take a stand.
The prophet
Elijah knew how it felt to avoid conflict. But there was one glorious
time in his life when he took a stand for the Lord God that is still
remembered.
We’ll talk about
that in the second message in our “Conversations Around the Campfire”
sermon series on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, June 13. “Elijah: Ready to Take a Stand?”
will be the sermon theme, based on 1 Kings 17:1-2, 17-46. While the
style of presenting the sermon will be different from usual, the goal
will be the same: to listen to God’s Word for help in living the coming
week as disciples of Jesus.
We also will install and pray for our Vacation Bible
School
volunteers, who will be serving Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18..
Our
weekend worship schedule offers three types of services – a
4:30 p.m. Saturday Living Water

“blended” service using the liturgy.

… Lutheran Mission Society and its varied ministries can continue in
our area.
LMS is part of Lutheran Services of America – an inter-Lutheran network
of ministries that annually serves more people in our country than
Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army combined.
Your generous regular offerings help support LMS and other ministry
agencies.
This is part of how we live out our faith as a community of believers
in Jesus gathered by the Holy Spirit.
Tending
the Flame
This year’s summer leadership “Tending the
Flame” Ablaze conference will be held at the Holiday
Inn Koger Center,
Richmond,
Va. from
Aug. 1–3.
There will be several dynamic keynote speakers, including our own Dr.
Mary Manz Simon. You are able to choose whatever workshops you wish out
of many offered.
This would be a great year to attend because of the Strategic Ministry
Plan (SMP) process. We can all come back with good ideas about how to
make Galilee the most-sought-after church on the Pasadena peninsula.
If interested, call me – John Polyniak
from the E-Team (410-437-4743) and I’ll get you costs and more
information. – In Christ’s
Service, John Polyniak,

team minute

by the nine ministry teams.
Christmas
in July!
We’ll be celebrating Christmas in July in two ways this month.
“ Christmas Dinner from 4 to 7 pm
Friday, July 25 in the Fellowship Hall. Turkey, dressing, potatoes
and the trimmings will be served.
Prices and other details will be coming. Any profit will go toward our
congregation’s mission effort.
“ Food collection by Human Care
Ministry team for North County Emergency Outreach
Network
(NCEON).
This food bank we help support is running short of virtually everything
needed to support the people who come to them looking for assistance.
HCMT will be putting up a Christmas tree. We invite members to bring
non-perishable food items – cereal, canned goods, baby food and
formula, as well as paper towels, bathroom tissue to put underneath the
tree.
Anyone who has an idea to help us make this Christmas in July a success
or who wants to help is encouraged to join in this effort.

Worship
definitions
What
does it mean that the 8 a.m.
service is traditional, the 10:45
a.m. worship uses “blended” musical styles and the 4:30 p.m. Saturday service
is informal?
“Traditional” means that most of the music will be hymns accompanied by
organ.
“Blended” means that the service form (liturgy) will be traditional,
but music usually includes a Gospel song and at least one contemporary
Christian song (typically accompanied on the piano), as well as hymns
with the organ.
“Informal” means a structured but simpler service Saturday than on
Sunday. A keyboard (piano or electronic) and/or guitar is used to
accompany the music. Songs are in the contemporary Christian
music style. Printed responses by worshipers also are not used in the
informal service, as on Sunday.
